God’s Ways Not Ours

sidonamarie Blog 0 0

Let’s call this my pre-Lenten blog. Lent begins February 14 this year. Hope to give some food for thought to those of you who read this. Sometimes we are surprised by moments in our lives. Saturday, February 3, 2018 was one of those times for me. The picture I chose for this blog is of my “mindfulness” wall. The three clearly wood carved items I bought from the Shepherds of Bethlehem. Below I am sharing a short Facebook post I…..

My First Poetry Reading

sidonamarie Blog 0 0

September 19, 2016 will forever be the date of my first poetry reading. I was asked, by the president (a friend of mine) of the local chapter of the PEO, to fill in for my daughter. My daughter had been scheduled to give a presentation on her six weeks college trip to Vienna, Austria this past summer. Commitments in the music department caused her to cancel. Lynne called me to fill in. Lynne knows how nervous…..

Why BY THE POND?

sidonamarie Blog 0 0

I thought I would explain the title of my book. The cover photo projects such a peaceful and approachable image of a pond and my daughter at about 8 or 9 years old. It was the perfect picture. I searched old photos and new on my computer. The original photo is of my daughter and a friend – I cropped it. The image of a little girl next to a pond on a beautiful day is…..

Finding My Voice

sidonamarie Blog 0 0

This is a continuation of my previous blog – Not A Theologian. To say “finding my voice” has been difficult falls in the category of understatement. My voice mixes with so many things and ideas now that I look for moments and words I know are mine. God and I do not talk in words most of the time. I would say it is more a flow of emotion between us. There also exists a level…..

Not A Theologian

sidonamarie Blog 0 0

Sometimes I just need to get things and ideas out. This is one of those times. I find no good purpose to the use of the words “evil” and “devil” when referring to people, groups, cultures, or religions. Leaders and people in power should not use them. Yes there are atrocities committed every day by individuals and groups. There are unbalanced people that do unspeakable acts. There are radicals like ISIS that have indoctrinated their followers…..

RIP Prince: When Doves Cry

sidonamarie Blog 0 0

Sad news to hear of Prince’s passing. 1999, Raspberry Beret and Little Red Corvette are three I really love to hear especially when they surprise me on the radio in the car. My favorite has always been When Doves Cry. Something in the line “that is what it sounds like when doves cry” has always stirred a deep and longing emotion in my heart. I always felt more than the literal meaning. Something much more poetic. A little…..

My Poetry: Gift, Curse, Blessing, or All

sidonamarie Blog 0 0

This blog seems to be my therapy lately. A place where I am as honest as I can be. Sometimes thing others look at as someones gift or talent may not feel like that to the person or artist. This is a scary and terrifying world to have a talent in. Your are loved and hated instantly. You are worshiped and cursed almost in the same breath. And, to make an error in judgement, speech, or action you are attacked…..

Native Americans: Dreams and Contraries

sidonamarie Blog 0 0

My dreams greatly influence my poetry. There always have been dreams I remembered even before 1993. There is a group I call “The Nine.” But, those will be for a future book and not now. Here I will talk about my search to understand what began that March day in 1993. I have always found dreams interesting but they do not guide what I decide to do. I mention too because a few are part of…..

Poem: Hope and the Memory Keeper (a musing)

sidonamarie Blog 0 0

Hope and the Memory-Keeper (a musing) is on page 14 of By the Pond (stanza 3 in picture above and the whole poem at the end). This poem a melding of ideas, thoughts and issues of mine. Hope is a child hiding, and the memory-keeper has a divine origin in the poem. She a high ranking creature – a seraph. What they represent in reality are repressed memory and its protection. In my completely unprofessional opinion, the memory-keeper that stands…..

Fun Tidbit #3: My Tattoo

sidonamarie Blog 2 0

August 14, 2015 I got my first tattoo.  It was done by my 28 year old cousin who is a tattoo artist. My children thought I was going through a midlife crisis. My husband always wanted me to get one even though he does not have any. My daughter has a small one, and my son has several. So, at 56 years old, I decided to go for it – but, it would be what I…..
