Am I Catholic? Part 1

sidonamarie Blog 2 1

Am I Catholic? At this point in my life, I cannot say I am not but cannot say I am either. Because of a separation on ethical beliefs and practices over the years, I have “self-excommunicated” myself. That means – by personal choice (the Catholic Church has not done this to me) I do not participate in the sacraments. It has been almost a year since I have been to the parish that landed the last…..

Fun Tidbit #2: My Rings

sidonamarie Blog 0 0

The 3 rings on my right hand seem to interest people and children I work with. I was even asked about them at the Miami Book Fair by a few people. I thought I would talk about them and their meaning to me. Let us start with the ring on my thumb. The ring has my two children’s names on it. About 12-15 years ago, the ring was made by an apprentice jeweler. We have…..

On Being A Woman Poet

sidonamarie Blog 0 0

Let me start by sharing the first poem I ever wrote. It was fall of 1977 and it came out just like it is. Frustration is in the middle section of By the Pond on page 71:   Frustration by sidonamarie   Whirl, wind, whirl. Hold back your rain.   Your clouds hang low, They blacken then build. Your storm rolls in So that day looks as night. Your thunder rumbles With rain ready to pour.   Whirl, wind, whirl. Hold…..

Pacific Book Review of By the Pond

sidonamarie Blog 0 0

I just received my second review for By the Pond. I am moved deeply by this review. The reviewer, Ella Vincent, compares my poetry to two of my favorite poets – Maya Angelou and Emily Dickinson. The third poet I am not familiar with – Angela Morgan. However, I am going to remedy that very soon.  So, I would like to share the review with you: Title: By the Pond: (Dreams, Imaginings, Musings) Author: Sidonamarie Publisher:…..

How Writing Impacts My Life

sidonamarie Blog 0 0

My poetry has been and remains an important part of who I am. Writing poetry is how I cope with the traumatic parts of my life. Poetry keeps me grounded and between the extremes of the physical and spiritual worlds. I dream a lot and use many images in my poetry. Dreams are the dreamers poetry. However, I do not let them rule my life. I focus on the emotions I feel in them – that…..

My Writing Process (the Rituals)

sidonamarie Blog 2 0

This idea for the blog actually came from my daughter over Christmas break. She was a book the creative personality and how they have an order, process, even rituals they must do in order to work. My daughter is a saxophonist working toward  teaching music at high school or college levels. She saw herself in this book. So- I was got thinking about my own. I do have them. Time of day is not important for me. The criteria…..

Why I Write Poetry

sidonamarie Blog 0 0

Only teaching and interacting with students at the elementary school, where I was a teacher’s aide for 12 years and now am  substitute teacher, fills that place in my heart and soul where I feel  called to as much or more than writing poetry. When I do not write, or  have dry spell, I feel as if I have lost my way. I worry that the  inspiration is gone and there is emptiness that only writing…..

What Makes By the Pond Unique?

sidonamarie Blog 0 0

What makes By the Pond unique I feel is its cohesiveness as whole.  While the faith base is Christian, the ideas, themes, and struggles are universal. The introduction and epilogue frame the poetry as to my intent. I have tremendous faith in God as father. Yet, I do not expect, or even want anyone to believe as I do. We all have our own path. 22 years ago (almost 23 years now) I walked into a church to sing with…..

Express Yourself/Creative Outlets

sidonamarie Blog 0 0

Finding what helps us move forward, over, and beyond our biggest hurtles (which can be ourselves) can be difficult but very important. I know from personal experience you can feel everyone sees your struggle as if it were written on you. My psychologist (I saw one in the 1990s) asked me once when things were very difficult “if I was feeling exposed.” “Exposed” in the sense that everyone could see what was wrong and nothing seemed private. At that time,…..

Wish & Imagine (peace) by sidonamarie

sidonamarie Blog 0 0

I do not usually use a complete poem for my Facebook page Pearls of & Poet’s Pebbles, but this is the one I wrote for Christmas and put in our family newsletter. My 25 year old son liked it and said not to change a word. So – decided to share it. Click “MORE” and enjoy.
