Let’s call this my pre-Lenten blog. Lent begins February 14 this year. Hope to give some food for thought to those of you who read this. Sometimes we are surprised by moments in our lives. Saturday, February 3, 2018 was one of those times for me. The picture I chose for this blog is of my “mindfulness” wall. The three clearly wood carved items I bought from the Shepherds of Bethlehem. Below I am sharing a short Facebook post I…..
We seem to live a world where public recognition is what everyone strives to attain. The award, the trophy, the plaque, the game ring, the money, all measure the value of our worth. I must admit at times I fall prey to those fantasies. I am not above wanting my poetry to sell and win awards when at home too many days with my thoughts. Then, I go to school and substitute…..
I believe in our right of peaceful assembly and protest. I believe in religious freedom (Christianity is not the only path). I believe in our right to free speech. Our President-Elect offended, belittled, and divided many people and groups of people during his campaign. He has given loud voice to an under current in our country. We see now while we have come a long way in the same breath we have not. Yet, the…..
Romantic and longing for personal love has never been where my writing goes 95% of the time. My poetry, my therapy, expresses my faith and spirituality more than anything else. Romantic love finds itself last on my list – always more important things to consider. By the Pond (Dreams, Imaginings, Musings) does not stand alone. Everyone seems to be writing trilogies and so am I. I am actually in my fourth book of poetry on my computer…..
September 19, 2016 will forever be the date of my first poetry reading. I was asked, by the president (a friend of mine) of the local chapter of the PEO, to fill in for my daughter. My daughter had been scheduled to give a presentation on her six weeks college trip to Vienna, Austria this past summer. Commitments in the music department caused her to cancel. Lynne called me to fill in. Lynne knows how nervous…..
I have been thinking about my youth from 7 years old to college. I work part-time these days at Cranes Pie Pantry and Restaurant with young people in high school, in their twenties, and a few of their mothers for the most part. I listen to them and think. The picture above shows me on the left and my younger sister, Kim, on the right. Gramma Peggy did not have much money but we would go…..
I thought I would explain the title of my book. The cover photo projects such a peaceful and approachable image of a pond and my daughter at about 8 or 9 years old. It was the perfect picture. I searched old photos and new on my computer. The original photo is of my daughter and a friend – I cropped it. The image of a little girl next to a pond on a beautiful day is…..
It has been about a month since my last blog entry. I thought I would focus on how I have been spending my time everyday. My husband and I live on a small fruit farm in Southwest Michigan. While we have plums, apricots, and pears, sour cherries take up most of the acreage. My husband harvests them with the one man shaker. My son works a lift tractor. My daughter and I take turns on the cooling pad. Cherry harvest…..
Poetry and prayer may seem similar, but for me they express differently. I am so wordy in my poetry sometimes. I envy poets who can say so much with so few words. Sometimes am able to and it does feel good. I am very proud of those when they happen. My poetry is not prayer. My poetry attempts to put emotions into a form with images. It is me exploring a part…..
Peace Sign The peace sign on the necklace I bought a couple years ago. I have always called myself a conservative hippie. I loved most the ideals of the era, but I would not have joined most of the behavior. I have never done drugs or drank to excess. I do enjoy a glass of wine once in awhile, but I have never done illegal drugs or smoked marijuana. I did touch a joint once and…..
